Friday, Sept. 3rd from 3PM-10PM, our community connected with us during a very special screening and an immersive live reading experience of Daughters of the Dust brought to you by @alfredascinema
Julie Dash's DAUGHTERS OF THE DUST is a magnificent framework and representation of transition in the dynamics of Black life, historiography, and togetherness. And as we re-emerge as a people post-lockdown, we believe revisiting this spiritual film will be healing after the collective trauma we've experienced. Based on Souldega Sis @litaispissed family in the Gullah community of coastal South Carolina, who at the dawn of the 20th century are facing a generational split from leaving the old Yoruba traditions of their ancestors and embracing the new, we view a family who is facing difficulty in intergenerational communication.
