Regla : Soul of a Community
Regla: Soul of a Community is an exhibition curated by Souldega member Ashleigh Alexandria and is scheduled to take place at The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Educational Center between April 9th - May7th. This is Alexandria’s debut NYC art exhibition produced under Souldega. The exhibition highlights the unique neighborhood of Regla, Cuba through the lens and creativity of four artists. Film Maker/ Photographer Amberly Alene Ellis, Afro-Cuban Hip Hop rapper, Alexey “El Tipo Este” Rodriguez, Creative Director & Body painter Ashleigh Alexandria "The Virgin Artiste" and Polaroid/Film photographer Jean-Andre Antoine.
This exhibit will explore Regla’s rich history steeped in Yoruba roots, religious culture and limited technology which sets the people of this community apart in this day in age. Through positive Afro-Cuban representation, each artist share their individual connection to Regla in the form of photography, music and video/ film projection and slides.
