SOULDEGA: What drives you to create your art work?

KIARRA: My drive comes from wanting to paint images that inspire and explore the many faces of beauty, elegance, strength and courage black women have.

SOULDEGA: What role does wood canvas play in your subject matter?

KIARRA: My choice in using wood canvas comes from connecting an organic material to a painted portrait bridging two distinct words together as one. The wood brings a softness and unique quality to each of my paintings since no one canvas is the same.

SOULDEGA: If you could live anywhere else in the world other than NYC, where would it be?

KIARRA: I would live in either South Africa or Kenya because of the vibrant color and culture. From my time visiting both countries I’ve been so inspired not only by the people but the culture and pride.
