SOULDEGA: What is your background in music and why has this become your creative outlet?
MACK: My background in music comes from my bloodline. Music is literally in my bones, starting back to my great grandfathers, also my mother and father are both very musically inclined. It became my creative outlet in college. I would sit in my room for hours just freestyling over youtube beats. It would bring me so much peace and that is when I found myself and found that this was the love of my life; music.
SOULDEGA: What gets you in the zone to create?
MACK: Honestly anything can get me in the mood to create music. I’m always inspired by everything around me. I find that the sky often times is my biggest inspiration. I can recall so many times of me staring out of my window staring into the sky and lyrics just appear in my mind. I prefer to always be alone when creating that’s when I’m truly in my zone.
SOULDEGA: Your latest EP Hourglass is such a sensual, audio ethereal, trippy project. Can you take us through the story of each track?
MACK: So the intro to the EP titled Gotta Know is a song about being completely obsessed with someone, it’s about being sprung and just wanting to know everything about this person. I’m a Virgo we can be very obsessive/attentive in love.
Lite Ting which is my personal favorite exudes confidence and ego. It’s about knowing your worth and not giving your energy to people who can’t handle it. “Clearly I’m a problem” my leo rising came through on this one.
Space luv is a song about being in complete lust. producer Fake Uzumi created this beat along with the others but when i heard it I instantly fell in love it felt like sex to my ears. I explain how we don’t have much time left to waste let’s go to the moon and just fall in love, that feeling of getting high from someone’s presence and just wanting to be wrapped up in them with no one else around.
Follow, another personal favorite is talking to someone who you can see needs you. I often tend to attract broken souls because I feel I am a healer in many ways as many women are we have that gift naturally. I’m explaining in this song to just let me lead you let me show you the way to love. Some people have never felt real love. Follow invites them to go on this ride with me assuring that they will be greatly taken care of.
SOULDEGA: What has been your most memorable experience while performing?
MACK: My most memorable experience performing was last month in Newport News. I’m generally a very timid person so sometimes performing has my nerves on edge. This crowd was so engaging and to see the whole room lit up as I sang it gave me one of the best feelings.
SOULDEGA: Where would you like to take your music career?
MACK: I hope to take my music career wherever God takes me. It doesn’t matter how famous or big I ever get. My main goal is to inspire and to be felt. I want people to relate to me, to feel good inside. If I can make just 20 or 20 million people both would be just as satisfying.
SOULDEGA: If there is someone living or dead that you would like to create an album with, who would it be?
MACK: I’d make an album with either Curren$y or Amy Winehouse two of my biggest inspirations which made me want to really start making music of my own. I just think our sounds would match perfectly.
